Psoriasis update

Talking about my psoriasis really bums me out because it makes me feel super ugly. My legs are now covered in scars from it but it’s nice to see them practically gone. I wouldn’t normal share it but if it will help someone else, it’s worth it. Here are before and afters!

Day who know who cares.

It has been a while since I’ve posted, mainly because I was busy. I thought everyone would like a little update. Right now I am still Drinking juices but I’m eating as well. I really wanted to do a plant based diet but my love for meat is really making it difficult so I’ve been eating lean meats too. I’ve went from 138 pounds to 123 so that is definitely exciting! My psoriosis is at a stand still right now. It is a little frustrating but I won’t give up!  Here’s a progress pic for all you visual people! Hopefully it will inspire you to try juicing!  Mean green and good morning juice are my go to juices so right now all I get is kale, celery, cucumbers, lemons, ginger, apples, oranges, sweet potatoes, and carrots. That keeps my costs and waste low!

MAy 19th- Day 14

Hey guys! Sorry I didn’t post yesterday. So, it seems like the million dollar question these days is “What kind of juicer do I get”. There is no right answer to this. Everyone has a different budget and/or lifestyle so all I can do is give you some tips and info about the differences!

Here is what to look for in a juicer:

The 8 most important features to look for in a juicer are:

  1. Easy to Use
Pick a juicer that is known for being easy to use and easy to clean. Truth is, no juicers are easy to clean, but some are definitely easier to clean than others. If the parts can go in a dishwasher, that’s a plus. If your juicer is easy to put back together after washing, that’s another plus.
  2. Value
You get what you pay for when it comes to juicers. Less expensive juicers tend to yield less juice which will actually cost you more in the long run since you’ll have to buy more produce to get enough juice into your glass. On the other hand, you don’t need to go out and spend an arm and a leg for a top-of-the-line juicer. For most of us, something in the middle around $100 to $150 is just about right.
  3. High Juice Yield, Dry Pulp
Efficiency is key. An efficient juicer produces drier pulp which means that most of the juice (and all its nutrients and enzymes) have been squeezed out for you to drink. If your pulp is wet and heavy then the juicer is not doing its job well. You can always re-juice your pulp by running it through the juicer again, but a good quality juicer will save you this added step.
  4. Pulp Ejection
Some juicers collect the pulp in an internal basket while others eject the pulp outside of the machine into a bowl or a pulp collector that is specifically sized for the juicer. We recommend purchasing a juicer that ejects the pulp externally– this allows you to make larger quantities of juice without having to take extra time to stop your juicer, open it up, and empty the basket.
  5. Multiple Speeds
Having multiple speeds allows you to extract the most juice out of your produce. Slow speeds are good for juicing soft fruits, like grapes, and the high speed is better for firmer vegetables, like carrots and cucumbers.
  6. Size of the Feeder Tube
Cut your juicing time down by selecting a juicer with a wide feeder tube so most whole fruits and vegetables easily fit.
  7. Storage and Cord Length
Look for a model with a long cord to give you greater flexibility in where it can be placed on your counters when juicing. If you plan to store your juicer in your cabinets, make sure you select one that fits as they tend to take up room. A compact model is good for cabinet storage.
  8. Juice Container
Look for a model that has a juice container specifically sized for the juicer and with a cover that fits over the spout. Juicing can be messy but this will help eliminate the splashes. ((Copied from Rebootwithjoe.com))

Here is a Centrifugal Juicer:

81YQRElQM1L._SL1500_ Breville Juice Fountain Duo Dual Disc

How they work
A spinning basket shreds the fruits and vegetables using a sharp disc, pushing the juice through a fine strainer by centrifugal force

Perfect for

  • Anyone new to juicing
  • Making juices quickly
  • Budget shoppers

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Juices quickly
  • Inexpensive

Cons

  • Depending on brand/model, juice may get foamy and thus oxidize more rapidly
  • Some leafy greens can be a little harder to juice
  • Cannot juice wheatgrass, sprouts, or nuts

Price Range:
$45-$300+

Here is a Masticating Jucier: (This is what I have)

champion-commercial-juicer-3 Champion Juicer

(Also known as Slow Juicers, Cold Press, Single Gear, or Single Auger)

How they work
Masticating juicers “chew,” or masticate, your produce by grinding (like teeth) and then squeezing the juice out

Perfect for

  • People with a moderate-high budget for a juicer
  • Rebooters who juice frequently

Pros

  • High juice yield and less pulp
  • Generates less foam so juices oxidize slower
  • Can juice most fruits and vegetables including wheatgrass, cranberries and even nuts
  • Versatile; depending on model and brand, some can be used to make baby foods, pates, sauces, nut butters, banana ice creams and fruit sorbets

Cons

  • Usually have many more parts to clean than a Centrifugal Juicer
  • Longer prep time – shoots tend to be smaller requiring cutting fruit and vegetables into smaller pieces.
  • More costly than Centrifugal Juicers

Price Range: About $200 – $400

 Masticating Juicer Examples

The other one is a Twin Gear but they are VERY expensive.

I hope this helped everyone understand the differences!

May 17- day 12 ((photo))

back at it today with another mean green to start my day but first I want to update you and what’s going on with my body! I’m still losing inches I believe (I don’t really keep track). My psoriasis has its good and bad days still. I thought they would be gone by now but they are having a hard time letting go lol. I guess it just takes time because after all, it took 7 years to get like this, it’s going to take a while to reverse it. Anyway, ever since I had Olivia, I’ve had this pain almost tugging feeling close to my belly button and it’s actually getting worse so I’ll be seeing a doctor about that really soon. I’m a little worried so if anyone has had this happen message me! Energy levels are great as always and I’m ready to start some workouts. I’ve done a few days here and there of light running but nothing crazy. Well, that’s all for today! I’m always here to answer questions and give support so don’t be a stranger 😉

May 16- Day 11 or 1?

Today I was weak. I got up and drank the hot lemon water and a mean green. Then something bad happened. I ate Penn Station. Not only that, I ate ALOT! But I wasn’t upset or even guilty. I just accepted it and prepared myself to jump back on the horse. So here I am, ready to get back to it. Because we are all human and we all indulge. It is what you choose to do after, what mind space you are in, that makes you or breaks you. Don’t beat yourself up for it! To be honest, it wasn’t that satisfying. Tasty, yes. Satisfying though? No. It made me SUPER tired and I felt pretty sick to my stomach. Sooooo I am on a quest to start healthy EATING. By that I mean chewing, because let’s face it, it is easy to drink veggies and fruits but I am so uneducated about healthy meals. I will be starting a pinterest board just for these meals and I will be incorporating them alongside my juices. Juicing IS sustainable but maybe not for long term. Happy juicing!

May 15- Day 10

Wow! Day 10… I honestly didn’t think this would last me even 3 days, but here I am and I am just on top of the world. I feel amazing today and I feel so ready to tackle this day! When I would usually be hardly out of bed if I was lucky to even be out of bed, I have already done laundry, cleaned the kitchen, fed my little minions, drank my lemon water, and juiced my first juice for the day! What more could a mama ask for?

Breakfast: Mean green tweeked ( I was out of kale what a sad day for my juices)

1/4 head of red cabbage

5 leaves of red lettuce

1 cucumber

2 celery stalks (you can put more but I choose less because I don’t like celery)

1/2″ ginger root

2 apples

1/2 lemon (I usually use a whole one but there was already one cut and I was feeling lazy)

Lunch: Dreamsicle

2 sweet potatoes

2 oranges

1 lemon

Drank that liquid gold and kiss yourself because you are amazing and you deserve this!

Happy juicing!

MAY 14th- Day 9

I am thinking about how amazing this has been and how I am ready to break the counting. Days, pounds, how much of what I do, etc. This has been more spiritual for me than anything. I feel my body without pain, I play with my son without wanting to just sleep, I clean my house from sun up till sun down, I live my life now, and I don’t want restrictions. I just want to love my food and treat my body right. I want to grow as a person more than I want to shrink my body. Sure, it is really nice to see my tummy shrink but it is even better to watch my skin clear along with my body and mind of all things negative. That is how I want to live my life. So I will still be labeling my days on here just for your reference but I will not be worrying about it or dwelling on my results. Put good stuff in and you will be rewarded, there is no time limits on happiness.

Breakfast: MEAN GREEN! That’s right people, that nasty juice I had for my VERY FIRST juice tastes amazing now. How weird is that? I also love cucumbers, something I used to gag even looking at. Anywho here is the recipeasy 😉

1 Cucumber

4 Celery stalks (I used a little less)

7-8 Kale leaves

2 apples

1 lemon

1 in. ginger root

Drink it up and feel the yummy goodness!

Lunch:

2 tomatoes

1 apple

1 stalk of celery

3 cm ginger

This. is. disgusting. It was light but something about the tomato taste had me gagging. So I gulped it down and grabbed my green tea and chugged that too haha. Down the hatch! Seriously though, never again.

Dinner:

Mean green again!

Happy juicing!!!

May 13th- Day 8

Hey everyone! Sorry I didn’t get the chance to post yesterday! I just want to say THANKYOU for all of the wonderful feedback from everyone. I am so happy when I get messages (I get ALOT now) about juicing. I am glad I could help so many people make a change! And since there are so many wanting to start, I wanted to do a little how to post on starting.

What is a reboot?

A period of time where you commit to consuming only fruit and vegetables in the form of juice or juice plus eating.

Why reboot?

It’s the nutrients found in fruit and vegetables that provides your body with the energy and nutrition it needs to operate most efficiently. Ingesting only fruits, vegetables and water help get your internal systems running at peak condition. You’ll lose weight, feel how you should feel, and know what it feels like to be well fed. Getting rid of diseases and illness and getting off medication (with doctors guidance)

How long?

Some people do it for 3 days, 7 days, 15, 30, or more. If you plan to do it for a long time and want to lose alot, I would have your doctor perform checkups throughout, especially if you have serious health issues.

Want a full rundown of what to know before you start? Check out Joe’s Reboot 101

My grocery list usually includes (but is not limited to)

Kale (looooots of this! It is good for cleansing your body)

Cucumbers (they make your juice really refreshing!)

Celery

Apples

Oranges

Carrots

Romaine

Broccoli

Sweet Potatos

Lemons

Grapes

Strawberries

Pineapples

These are just some of the things you can get!

Some that I don’t like are

Ok… I am embarrassed but proud to post these before and after photos. Please know that I am a mommy and I have stretch marks and all that jazz. Try not to judge, we are all human after all. These are 6 day result photos unedited. Ignore the poor quality.

I still have a long way to go but I think it is a great start 🙂

Juicing Newbie

“Concretely, these are people who are at higher risk for and higher occurrence of suicide. These are people who suffer with much greater levels of depression, anxiety, social isolation, unemployment, marital impairment, sexual impairment, disorders obviously contributing to or from very impaired self-image,” Dr. Fried says.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology- Up to 40 percent of people with psoriasis experience joint inflammation that produces symptoms of arthritis. This condition is called psoriatic arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis patients have joint inflammation and also have other symptoms of arthritis.

Join pains, anxiety, and depression are only a few ways psoriasis has poisoned my life. Something as simple as shorts or skirts had me in tears. I would avoid going places once it had spread to my arms and my health was in the toilet. I was more than ready for a change. Something had to be done and I was not going to let myself be on prescriptions to mask my symptoms, still leaving the source lay dormant inside. So what was my body telling me? I was tired, sad, and in pain. I needed someone to relate to.

That is when I saw “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”, a documentary so conveniently placed on my Netflix recommendation. I watched the whole thing through and even the second one. I teared up many times thinking how this could change my life. If you haven’t watched it, it is a must see. It has already changed my life in so many ways. Anyway, I quickly jumped on ebay and won a bid for a juicer! I couldn’t wait for that first glass of juice! MAN was it BAD! but I learned what to put in and take out to make them yummier and now I am on day 5 of my juice fast! I am not going to lie, it is very hard and it takes alot of drive to do. I started seeing my psoriasis heal and that was a game changer. I cried when I saw one of them completely healed. I just knew I found my cure. So, here I am. Day 5. It is alot easier and I am feeling less hungry and look forward to my juices. Now if I could get someone to clean my juicer, I would be golden.

I know you guys don’t want to hear my novel of a story but I just wanted to make it very clear that this is not so fad diet or something I am even doing for weight loss (although I am slimming down quiet quickly). I am doing it for my health and hopefully this will be a part of my life for as long as I live. I never knew how important nutrition really was. Honestly, I was eating the worst junk you could think of. My favorite food was pie if that gives you an idea. I have actually learned to love many veggies I once hated.

This will be a place to post my recipes and daily juices. Hopefully I will get the time to do some exercise and I will post that here too. And of course my before and after photos once my fast is over! I am so excited to share my journey with you and I hope that some of you will join me! Happy juicing and I’ll see you next time!
